List of Social Bookmarking Sites and How To Get Traffic From It

On Sunday I wrote an article about Facebook and the issues users are having with their Facebook Pages, Facebook Marketing Strategies and the decreased traffic that they receive through the social platform.

As a standard procedure, after I publish the article, I share it on social bookmarking site such as Delicious, Digg, Reddit and more. I saw about 150 views (my sites now averages about 20 unique visitors per day) for that specific article in just two days! Holy S&%£! That blew me away!

Here’s the proof:

And where that traffic came from? From Reddit!

For some unknown reason, my post went viral on Reddit, the traffic came in and I was shocked about the power that these websites can have on increasing a website’s traffic.

So I went on a research and wrote down a list of the most important Social Bookmarking sites that you have to use to increase the traffic to your website.

At the end of the post, I’ll share a little tip that will help you share your content faster and easier through these sites.

The 6 best Social Bookmarking sites you HAVE to use to increase your traffic numbers:

  1. Reddit – PR 8 – Alexa Ranking 135
  2. Pinterest – PR 6 – Alexa Ranking 38
  3. BuzzFeed – PR 7 – Alexa Ranking 508
  4. Delicious – PR 8 – Alexa Ranking 542
  5. StumbleUpon – PR 7 – Alexa Ranking 151
  6. Digg – PR 8 – Alexa Ranking 517

You really don’t want to care about Follow or NoFollow backlinks, just make your way through the submission process and share something valuable to your target audience. Remember that you use these sites to get more backlinks AND find new traffic and audience through these websites.

Remember to use keyword optimized titles and descriptions when you submit to these sites, so that you will also get some backlinking juice and your topic will be indexed faster.

You’ll get more exposure if you post timely related news and informations. Evergreen content is always good, but the breaking news of the day gets much more attention. How to find those breaking news? That’s for another post ;)

Now here’s a tip.

Install Addthis. This is an extension for Firefox, Chrome, Safari or (ughh…) Internet Explorer that will add a button on your browser’s toolbar and list all the submit pages of the most important sharing and bookmarking sites available (including the ones above). It’s constantly updated and well coded. An invaluable timesaver!

Hope you found this post useful! If you have more social bookmarking and sharing sites to add to my list, feel free to do it in the comment section below.

Great article, I saw your link on Twitter.

I’ve submitted to Reddit before without much luck, but I’m glad you got a little viral push. I will try Addthis and start submitting more to these sites. I love Buzzfeed, but I didn’t know you could submit to it.

    Thanks!

Hey Wally! Thanks for your comment! Yeah, unfortunately Reddit, like any user-submitted news site, is very unpredictable. But you can still have nice results from them if you submit time sensitive news stories. I had a little success with my facebook post because it was the story of the week. You should find breaking news about your niche or topic and try to post your comment and point of view about it. It will get traction on the social media sites for sure!

    Hi Luca,
Thanks for the information. I should be using bookmarking a bit more than I do and AddThis seems to be a good tool to use. I was looking at AddThis a couple of days ago because it is one of the very few websites that Google has awarded a PR10 to. Must be a great site.

    Cheers
    Roger

Hi Luca, Very well said, written. Social bookmarking sites are definately a great source of search engine traffic, backlinks, and link building inputs!
Submitting bookmarks to various bookmarking sites is free, easy, and effective way to improve SEO for your blog.
Usually we should not go by dofollw or nofollow tags when we consider big bookmarking sites like Delicious, Digg, Diigo…!
